Previous Meetings
7:30 PM on Thursday March 12 (second Thursday)
In attendance: David, Jonathan, and David.
We talked about various things including what the definition of a framework is, and it could be everything from the entire PHP ecosystem to systems such as cake and zend, to an application such as a DMS or CMS that allows customization through modules and plugins. We mentioned the OpenSourceCMS and CMSMatrix websites.
We talked about data gathering and extraction from various file formats, particularly HTML, XML, and ODT, and serialization back into those formats.
We mentioned some stuff about being good that it is standards compliant as possible. Knowledge tree with it's headless open office, conversion and indexing of MS Word files. We talked about DOM and walking through it with a library. We talked about the modx CMS system
We talked about some other stuff not related to PHP
We talked about the Venue and agreed that Cafe Negociants was good because they had their own wifi, as well as it's close enough to get some access to the Edinburgh University access points. We all agree that the prices where decent, and had reasonable selection of food and drink. Cafe Negociants is also good because it is fairly centrally located, however we did find the Cafe a touch on the noisy side.
We agreed that the second Thursday of the Month is good as it doesn't seem to conflict with any other techie group meeting that we know of, and that we should try to see if we can get a few more people out. We also found that this was really great opportunity to network and to chat about common technical problems with different solutions.
